14 Trees

28 May

My classes planted 14 different trees grown from maple seeds produced by trees on NDA’s campus.  As of now, 11 of the 14 trees have found permanent homes.  I liked the project on several fronts.  The symbol of our Alumnae Association is a tree and having students take seedlings home that came from trees on NDA’s campus has a nice consonance with our Alumnae symbol.  Environmentally trees provide habitat for any number of insects and animals, trees provide protections against erosion, trees produce oxygen whiule sequestering carbon dioxide, and trees provide shade that can cut cooling bills.  Beyond that trees beautify our communities and our lives.
